Town Hall in Corfu, Greece
The Town Hall in Corfu, Greece is an impressive and historical Venetian structure located in the old main town. Built between 1663 and 1693 during Venetian occupation, this massive building is constructed with marble and stone. Originally, it was used as a building for noblemen, but in 1720 it became the Noble Theatre of Saint Giacomo of Corfu. By 1903, the building was transformed into the Town Hall it is today. From 1733 to 1893, it was the first Greek opera house and hosted many Italian composers and musicians due to the Venetian influence. The first opera showcased was Gerone, Tiranto di Siracusa by A. Aurelli. Despite being destroyed during World War II, the Town Hall was later reconstructed and remains a significant attraction in Corfu.
