Mount Aroania in Achaia, Peloponnese
Achaia Mountains & Nature - Mount Aroania, also referred to as Helmos, is a stunning mountain range located in the northern region of Peloponnese. It is primarily situated in the Achaia prefecture, with a smaller portion situated in the Korinthia prefecture. The highest point of the mountain range can be found in the northeastern part of the Kalavrita province, reaching an astounding height of 2,355 meters. In ancient times, Mount Aroania was commonly known as "Aroania". However, it was later given the name "Helmos", which may have originated from the Slavic term for "hill", or the Arvanite term for "poisonous mountain". This name was attributed to the mountain due to its association with Styga, a body of water that was deemed poisonous by the ancient Greeks.
