Messinia Gorges - The Ridomo Gorge in Messinia, Peloponnese is a must-visit destination for nature enthusiasts. This stunning gorge, situated in the Messinian region of Mani, is similar to the Viros Gorge and is conveniently located just 15 km away from Kalamata. The gorge originates from the point where the Sadova stream meets the sea and extends all the way up to Profitis Elias on Mount Taygetos. One particularly narrow section of the gorge, measuring only two meters wide and 60 meters high, is accessible via a footpath between Kedro in Gaitses and Pigadia. Don't forget to keep an eye out for the traditional stone bridge along the way.

For those interested in natural monuments, it's worth noting that the Ridomo Gorge is home to the preserved maple tree of Sidirokastro, which is considered a natural monument of the Peloponnese, alongside the olive tree of Kalamata and the plane tree of Agios Floros. Additionally, the forest on Sapientza Island, containing evergreen wide-leaf trees, is also a preserved natural monument that should not be missed.
