Philoctetes Cave in Limnos, Greece
Limnos Caves - The Philoctetes Cave in Limnos, Greece, is a famous underwater cave situated underneath the historical landmark of Kavirio. Steeped in legend, the cave is named after Philoctetes, the son of King Thessaly who fought in the Trojan War. Upon arriving in Limnos, Philoctetes was bitten by a serpent while hunting, causing a foul odor to emanate from his wound. Abandoned with only the weapon of Hercules, Philoctetes spent a decade alone on the island, where the cave has become a popular tourist attraction.
