Rethymnon Churches & Monasteries - Moni Asomaton is a historic monastery located in Rethymnon, Crete. This monastery, dedicated to the Gathering of the Angels, is situated in a picturesque landscape in the heart of the Asomathianos Plain. Originally constructed in the 10th–11th centuries, the monastery was destroyed by the Arabs and later rebuilt. However, during the Turkish occupation of Crete, it was once again destroyed. Despite this, the monastery played a significant role during the occupation. Today, the former Agricultural School on the monastery grounds has been transformed into a research center. The church within Moni Asomaton features 18th century icons of the Taxiarches (Archangels) and Aghia Triada (Holy Trinity).
