Chios Churches & Monasteries - The Megalos Taxiarchis Church in Chios, Greece, is a remarkable site located in the charming village of Mesta. It was built on the foundations of a castle tower and is dedicated to Archangels Michael and Gabriel. This church is one of Greece's largest, and its stunning architecture makes it a must-visit location in Chios. Following the withdrawal of the Genoese, the tower was abandoned and became infested with crows and snakes, which the locals believed to be evil. In 1958, the community decided to remove the tower and rebuild the church, which took ten years to complete. Today, the Megalos Taxiarchis Church stands as an impressive testament to the faith and determination of the people of Mesta. Don't miss the chance to see it!
