Voulkano Monastery, also referred to as Vourkano, holds great spiritual significance and is situated in one of the most sacred regions of ancient times. Positioned on a mountaintop in the Messinia Prefecture of Peloponnese, this monastery offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding plains. However, due to its challenging location and exposure to harsh weather conditions such as scorching sun, freezing cold, and strong winds, the monks were compelled to abandon it. Voulkano Monastery dates back to 1608 and is located in close proximity to the remnants of the ancient temple of Zeus, where animal and potentially even human sacrifices were conducted.
