Athens Churches & Monasteries - The Monastery of Annunciation in Athens, Greece, also known as the Monastery of Saint Ephraim, is situated in the village of Nea Makri, at the foot of Amomon, north of the port of Rafina on the coast of Attica. According to legend, in 1950, Sister Macrina, a Greek nun, was moved by the will of God to restore the Monastery of Annunciation, which had been destroyed by pirates in the XV century. Today, the monastery is a popular destination for visitors from Greece who come to witness its ongoing development. The working mother Macrina has since become the abbot of the monastery. The Monastery of Annunciation holds daily monastic order services and takes care of the spiritual needs of pilgrims who come to pay their respects to the relics of the saint.
