Panagia Elona Monastery in Arcadia, Peloponnese
The Panagia Elona Monastery in Arcadia, Peloponnese has stood on the hills of Parnonas since the 14th century. It is believed that the monastery was established by the first two monks who came to protect the precious icon of Panagia Vrefocratousa that was discovered here. During the Ottoman Empire, the area gained notoriety for the icon's miraculous powers, which aided the monastery's economic growth, and supported the region through the conflicts that ensued during that era.
