Malevis Monastery in Arcadia, Peloponnese
Arcadia Monasteries - Malevis Monastery in Arcadia, Peloponnese stands tall on Mount Parnonas, dedicated to Panagia (Virgin Mary). With a rich history dating back to 717 AD, the original structure was destroyed in the late 18th century by Turkish forces as the monks supported the Revolution. In the Occupation of Kalavryta, Peloponnese, the monastery served as a hospital for rebels, and was consequently bombed by German forces. Nevertheless, Malevis Monastery was revived in 1949 by nuns and rebuilt after an earthquake struck a few years later. A magnificent icon, painted by Evangelist Lucas, is housed within the monastery, making it a must-visit destination for history buffs and art enthusiasts alike.
