Aegina Churches - The Panagia Chrysoleontissa Church in Aegina, Greece is a historic monastery built in 1610 by monks as a defense against pirate invasions. It is the oldest monastery on the island and sits atop the highest point of Aegina. In 1935, the monastery was transformed into a female convent under the direction of the Archbishop of Athens. The annual celebration in honor of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary takes place on August 15th at the impressive Panagia Chrysoleontissa Church in Aegina, Greece.
