Skiathos Sights & Monuments - The Castle of Skiathos in Greece is a captivating mediaeval town built strategically on a rocky cliff that hangs above the sea. With its enormous height, the castle provided ideal protection for its inhabitants. At its peak, the castle boasted 22 elegant churches and 300 dwelling units. Presently, only a solitary church remains, but remnants of other churches and restored houses can still be found. The summit offers awe-inspiring panoramic views of the mainland and northern Skopelos, including a picturesque beach where boats anchor. Adventurous visitors can hike to the main town, passing a charming little church along the way. The castle can also be reached on foot, but it's not for the faint-hearted. For a lighter option, jeep safaris are readily available through local travel agencies.
