Samos Sights & Monuments - The Lykourgos Castle in Samos, Greece is a historic gem constructed during the 7th century. Despite being abandoned and conquered by the Ottomans in 1475, it was recaptured by Lykourgos Logothetis, one of the leaders of the Greek Revolution. If you're a history buff, you'll be happy to know that this castle now functions as a museum. Standing tall on the hill's highest point is the historic church of Transfiguration, which was constructed after Liykourgos Logothetis' initiative. This was done to commemorate the victory of Samos against the Ottomans in the strait of Mycale back in August 1824.
