Ancient Halieis in Porto Heli, Peloponnese
The most important destination in Porto Heli's southern, coastal area is perhaps the historic City of Halieis. Although archeological excavations have been carried out since the early 1900s, the most significant ones were started by Americans in 1962. Numerous pottery artifacts, a stadium, and ancient temples were discovered during these finds. The remains of the old harbor walls and the subterranean columns of the Temple of Apollo are submerged underwater and continue to show themselves. A unique experience for scuba divers is swimming in Porto Heli's seas amid the historic discoveries of Ancient Halieis!
