Kassiopi Castle in Corfu, Greece
Corfu Sights & Monuments - Kassiopi Castle in Corfu, Greece is one of the oldest castles on the island. Perched on a rocky cape to the north of Kassiopi Bay, it is believed to have been constructed in the 1st century A.C. Over the centuries, the castle has been destroyed and rebuilt multiple times. Today, visitors can explore its impressive walls, towers, and bastions, as well as a water reservoir and several cannons. The most notable feature is undoubtedly the restored central gate, flanked by two towers with two floors each. Throughout the Byzantine period, Kassiopi Castle formed a vital part of a defensive triangle, alongside Gardiki Castle to the south and Angelokastro Castle in the north-western part of the island.
