Preveli Beach in Rethymnon, Crete is a true gem. Nestled at the mouth of the "megapotamos" river, this beach boasts a stunning lagoon that locals affectionately refer to as "Lake." Surrounded by lush palm trees and thriving vegetation, it's no wonder that this spot is one of Crete's most picturesque attractions. In the past, it was a popular destination for naturalists and campers. The crystal-clear sea sparkles with a range of blue and green hues and the fine, white sand is a sight to behold. To access Preveli Beach, visitors must travel by foot or boat. Two footpaths lead to the beach, one from Preveli Monastery and the other from Drimiskiano Ammoudi. Both paths are a quick, easy walk. Organized cruises from Plakias or Agia Galini are also available, but the beach can be crowded during peak season. At the canteen, visitors can purchase refreshments and rent umbrellas, sunbeds, and paddle boats. It's worth noting that the area is part of the NATURA network and is protected by local authorities. Overnight stays are not permitted.
